Today's painting was inspired by breaking surf on the Pacific Coast. After a weekend at the coast, it is always difficult to return home, but I brought with me the inspiration to create a painting of those crashing waves. Looking closely at those splashes, I began to recognize that there are actually shadows in that white water and that the sun makes the rocks sparkle in very subtle ways. This small oil painting is 5x7 inches and felt giant after some of my recent 4x4 and 4x6 inch paintings. Though it has
