Mountains and Coast

Hurricane Hill
8x8 Oil on Canvas
SOLD

Salt Creek
8x8 Oil on Canvas
SOLD

Last month I had the pleasure of visiting the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State with a group of friends. We ventured from the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Hurricane Ridge and hiked along the sea and in the mountains all within one day. I arrived home with lots of inspiration for painting the lovely landscapes of the area. A series of 8x8 square format landscapes emerged after the trek. The two paintings above are my favorites. The rest can be viewed here in my portfolio. As the paint dries I will be selling the originals in my Etsy Shop and perhaps doing some larger versions to submit to my Ugallery portfolio

Nisqually Delta

If you've ever been to the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge in Thurston County, Washington State, then you will recognize one of the remaining barns from the Brown Family Farm.  It is a classic barn in a beautiful rural landscape.  It is a blessing that this area is shared with public and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Nisqually Delta.  I am inspired to paint every time I visit.  This oil painting is 8x10 inches and was based on a photo taken last spring.  I loved the contrast of the sunlit barn and the tree shadow.  The painting is for sale at my Etsy Shop.  Click this link to view it in the shop or make a purchase.

Puget Sound Sunset

With the time change, winter sunsets come early. It has been cold and wet and now nature's lights are turning off early, too. This little 4x6 inch painting was inspired by the view from my living room window. I love to watch the storms move across the sky and view Fox Island and the Key Peninsula across the sound.

Foothills Trail--Original Landscape Oil Painting

Last week I spent a wonderful afternoon riding the Foothills Trail in Pierce County of Washington State. It is a 15-mile mixed-use trail that provides a delightful bicycle ride. It begins in the town of Puyallup, winds through fertile farmlands of the Orting Valley, parallels the Carbon River, and places Mount Rainier prominently in the distance. This 8x10 inch painting was inspired by a scene at the beginning of the trek. The afternoon was beautiful and I was impressed by the warmth of the landscape and the shadow of this tree. I regret I did not take more photo references as I pedalled along. This week I'm hoping to travel the trail again. This time I will take more photos and plan to paint more of the scenery along the way.
