Standing Tall--Original American Tree Painting

I've been playing with this stand of trees for a couple of days now. In today's painting, I have altered the number of trees, the background and foreground, and the shape and size of the support on which it was painted. When I compare this painting and yesterday's painting of the same subject I find elements in each that I both like and dislike. What I like about this painting over yesterday's is the foreground and background which is uncluttered and doesn't distract focus from the trees. I like the contrast of dark and light, and I like the combination of green and violet. In yesterday's painting, I like the way the four trees read as three, with the little one hiding in the shadows. Should I paint this subject a third time? I'll ponder that question for a few days.

Nancy, I'm in love with this! I so love your second attempt for the very reasons you changed it! The greens are so vivid, the simple purples are so striking...very beautiful!!

It's so great to see comparisons and here your thoughts and see your changes. You're right, much more contrast.
