I've been playing with this stand of trees for a couple of days now. In today's painting, I have altered the number of trees, the background and foreground, and the shape and size of the support on which it was painted. When I compare this painting and yesterday's painting of the same subject I find elements in each that I both like and dislike. What I like about this painting over yesterday's is the foreground and background which is uncluttered and doesn't distract focus from the trees. I like the contrast of dark and light, and I like the combination of green and violet. In yesterday's painting, I like the way the four trees read as three, with the little one hiding in the shadows. Should I paint this subject a third time? I'll ponder that question for a few days. Technorati tags:

Nancy, I'm in love with this! I so love your second attempt for the very reasons you changed it! The greens are so vivid, the simple purples are so striking...very beautiful!!
