Sailboat Landing

The sun came out today. It got me thinking about the coming summer months. Lazing my day away on a sailboat or a warm, grassy shoreline sounds like a good option. This little 5x7 inch painting was created with a wish for the coming days of summer. It is for sale at the Small Impressions Gallery at Etsy and can be viewed or purchased here.

Evening Sails Original Painting

Yesterday I was hoping that if I posted a sunny painting, the weather might change. No such luck. The rain has poured down much of the afternoon and hope for some sunshine in the near future is a dream with which the weatherman teases his viewers. In spite of his unchanging prediction for the Pacific Northwest portion of the US, I'm painting an outdoor scene. This sailboat painting, completed with a limited palette, is 5x7 inches. Since boating season has begun, I'm looking forward to painting more sailboats, hopefully the next one will be sunny and full of the promise of summer fun.

Sailing--Original Small American Oil Painting--Sailboat Race

This little painting is the second in my current series of sailboat paintings. I wish the paint on it and its companion painting were dry so I could enter them into the Maritime Fest Art Show in Tacoma, Washington along with several other maritime paintings that I will be entering this weekend. The Maritime Fest runs August 20 to September 13 on the waterfront. When these two little paintings dry, I will eventually sell them in the Small Impressions Gallery at Etsy or enter them in next year's competition.

Sails--Original American Sailboat Painting

Recently I was reminded of an afternoon my husband and I spent on the waterfront of Commencement Bay on Puget Sound. Unexpectedly a sailboat race was taking place. It was a delight to watch the abstract patterns created by the sails as they traversed the bay. Translating some of those patterns from my memory to the canvas was fun. This little painting is 6x6 inches on a canvas panel and is one of two small paintings I created yesterday. Today I'm considering transferring some of my ideas to a larger canvas and experimenting with some additional compositions.
