Scruffy Puppy

Today's painting is a 5x7 inch oil painting of a scruffy little pup. It was fun to try to recreate his fly-away fur that stuck out in every direction and a challenge to create the backlighting. Now that he is dry, he has joined some of my other paintings of birds and animals at the Small Impressions Gallery at Etsy. To purchase or view him in the gallery, click here.

Dog Lover

That's me--a dog lover. I love to meet new dog friends, enjoying their personalities and their own unique doggie styles. This painting was inspired by a Chow Chow I met a while back at the dog park. His name is Bernie. What amazed me was that his nose and tongue were actually blue. The blue in my painting isn't just an artistic choice. His features were actually blue. The painting of Bernie has SOLD, but there are more paintings of birds and animals at the Small Impressions Gallery.

Chow Chow

This is Bernie, a Chow Chow I met recently at the dog park. He is a furry ball of hair with a blue tongue--not black, but blue. It isn't just my choice of color, but his tongue was really blue. His face was so furry, it was hard to see his eyes. I was so enchanted with Bernie that I had to snap a picture. Then I had a lot of fun painting his mug. The painting was completed with oil paints on a 4x6 canvas panel. He sold through my Etsy Gallery, Small Impressions Paintings.

Aussie Pet Portrait

Here is the second in my recent set of pet portraits. Like the one I posted yesterday, this one was a pleasure to paint. I love the soft white fir on his face and chest; it makes it a pleasure to give him a pet or scratch his chest. This painting is also 5x7 inches. Now we're off to the dog park for a little romp.

Window Watcher

This is Chaco, my daughter's Australian Shepherd. He is about a year and a half old and keeps everyone in his life quite busy with his endless energy. He loves to catch a frizbee and has a hard time sitting still. A few weeks ago I took a lot of photos of him as he was gazing out our front window looking for some action. This painting is based on one of those photos. It is 5x7 inches on a Raymar canvas panel. I'm not sure if the painting will ever leave the family. We love Chaco too much to let go of one of his portraits.

Really Big Dog--Great Dane Painting

On my recent quest to paint dog walkers, I ran across this Great Dane. His owner was actually in tow, but I left her out of the painting. I love the way these big guys trot along and in spite of their size have found they are usually quite friendly. I couldn't help but put him down on canvas. The painting is 5x7 inches on a canvas panel.

Good-bye Cleo--I enjoyed your company!

It is with mixed emotions that I say good-bye to Cleo, my favorite little puppy painting. Cleo is a 5x7 inch oil painting on a Raymar Canvas Panel. She has been good company, but has sold to a new owner and will no longer look at me while I sit in my studio and ponder.

Sidewalk Scout--Original Dog Painting

Another day, another dog. As this guy cruised along the sidewalk, I was attracted to his confidence and the fluff of his tail. He seemed to know where he was going and that tail was like a flag telling everyone to pay attention. The painting is 5x7 inches on a Raymar panel and was loads of fun to paint.

Dog Park Lover--Original Oil Painting

This sweet little Beagle is the Dog Park Lover. He greets everyone with a wiggle of the tail a skip and a hop. He plays nice with the small dogs, but isn't afraid to mix it up with the big guys, too. A few moments of blue skies and sunshine on his face encouraged me to paint this little 5x7 inch version of him. Visit my Etsy Gallery, Small Impressions, to view some of my other animal portraits.

Energy Dog--Original Dog Portrait

I don't know his name, but he's really fast. He heards other dogs and small children with boundless energy. His playful nature and long tongue inspired me to create his portrait. We met at the dog park yesterday afternoon and he left quite an impression. He'll be joining some of my other animal paintings at Small Impressions Gallery when he dries. He was created on a 5x7 inch canvas panel with professional grade oil paints.

Cheerio--Flying Border Collie--Original Oil Painting

This is Cheerio. He's the fastest dog at the dog park. He so impresses me with his speed that I was inspired to paint him in mid stride. He doesn't just run across the field after a ball, he flies. There are points in his sprint where his feet don't even touch the ground. The other dogs know they have no chance at the ball when he's in the park, so they chase him and pretend they are part of the game. When this little 4x6 inch painting is dry, it will be for sale at Small Impressions Gallery along with some of my other small animal paintings.

Sun Feels Good--Original Dog Portrait

Yesterday I spent several hours at the off-leash dog park. It is definitely an adventure with every kind of dog and every kind of personality. Some love to romp and run while others are shy and hang on the edges. Some lumber and some sprint. Some yelp with delight and others just sniff the air. Today's 5x7 inch dog portrait is inspired by the love of sunshine on a K-9 friend.
