A Little Winter Sunshine

With the cold weather in full force, I dug around in my collection of bright, sunny paintings and found this 9x12 inch oil painting that I created last summer when the weather was warm and flowers bloomed in the backyard.  It is now for sale at my Etsy Shop, Small Impressions Paintings.  Like most of my paintings, it was created with artist grade oil paints on a gallery-wrapped canvas.  Staples are on the back, so it can be hung with or without a frame.  I hope someone who is longing for some sunshine will purchase it and make their home a little brighter.  Click here to view it in the shop or make a purchase.  This link will take you to the shop where you can view some of my other tropical fruit paintings.

Three Little Charms

This 6x8 inch painting of three little cherries was a fun one to paint. I like the simplicity and color.  It was created on a gallery wrapped canvas so it can be hung with or without a frame.  It can be purchased online from the Small Impressions Gallery at Etsy by visiting this link.

. . . and Then the Sun Came Out

On Friday night I left town for the coast, took my paints and hoped the weather would warm up. Arriving in the dark, the wind was blowing like crazy and I wondered about my choice for weekend relaxation. When I awoke Saturday morning, it was beautiful. The sun was out, and even though it was cold, I was happy to see it. By the time I finished painting these three little pears, the air had warmed and I was able to go outside to play. My bicycle got a workout, the beach and I communicated for a while, and then I painted some more. It was a lovely weekend.

A Juicy Snack

Today's painting occurred just before a little snack. Guess what I snacked on. Yes, some juicy grapes. The painting is a tiny 4x6 oil painting on canvas. It has joined some of my other little still life paintings of fresh fruit at the Small Impressions Gallery. To view it in the gallery or purchase, click here.

Lemon Glass

This morning before the day developed into a typical too-busy Saturday, I was able to steal some time and paint this little 5x7 inch oil painting. Capturing glass is always a sweet challenge.

Red Apple Trio

Today's painting is a fun little 4x6 inch oil on a canvas panel. This trio of red apples caught my eye and it was fun to use loose brush strokes while creating the image. The painting can be purchased for $30.00 plus shipping at the online gallery, Small Impressions. I imagine it gracing a little corner in someone's kitchen.

Tsunami Warning

It has been an interesting day. Started yesterday with a trip to the Washington State Coast and a debate with my husband about the safety of heading toward the shore soon after a tsunami warning. He won; we visited; all is well. It turned out to be a non-event for our location though a tragedy for Japan. As I sat inside, looked at the pouring rain, and contemplating our good fortune, my brush tilted towards painting warm things. This 4x6 inch painting of lemon quarters on a red cloth resulted from my musings.

Reflection on Pears

This morning I sat a couple of green pears on the case of my laptop. The dark shiny surface provided a wonderful reflection and I loveed the contrast of the bright green with the darkness. Needless to say, my brush got to work and quickly covered the canvas. The painting is 5x7 inches and will eventually find its way to the Small Impressions Gallery where it will be listed for sale with my other small fruit paintings.

Apples and Snow

Yesterday snow blew into my life. In Western Washington State, snow is uncommon. We receive a dusting several times a year, but unlike other parts of the country, we don't spend weeks and weeks under a blanket of it. It is a mild climate, but because we are not used to the daily drudgery of a snow-covered landscape, most of us just stay in the house and keep warm. School is cancelled and offices are closed. As a result, subjects for yesterday's paintings felt limited. My collection of photos has been sorted too many times and my inspiration lagged. Apples in my refrigerator were one of the few objects that seemed to provide some color to my day. This is one of two paintings that resulted from my discussion with the apples. I was quite excited today when a contact at Flickr sent me a note that this painting had been included in a blog entry at alivenotdead.com. Time and the Apple was a fun read and it was a pleasure to be a part of it. This painting is 5x7 inches on a canvas panel and has SOLD. If you click the links, you can view some of my other fruit and tripical fruit paintings that are currently for sale.

Red Grapes in Daylight

The rain has returned, but a couple of days of sunshine left me feeling renewed. I sat this cluster of red grapes on a table by the window and pretended it was a sunny day. The light was just enough to create a shadow and inspire me to paint. The painting is 5x7 inches on a canvas panel. It has SOLD, but you can view some of my other paintings for sale at the Small Impressions Gallery . There is a large collection of small fruit paintings available for purchase.

Waiting for Dinner

I'm a very lucky woman; my husband cooks. About a week ago, while he was making dinner, I passed through the kitchen. A freshly cut avacado sat on the counter. Thus, the inspiration for my painting--a wonderful husband and an avacado--who could ask for more? This sweet little painting is for sale at the Small Impressions Gallery. Click here to view it in the gallery and put it in your shopping cart.

In Praise of Modern Transportation

Today's effort requires that I praise modern transportation. Only in the days of such can I have the luxury of sitting in my warm little studio many miles north of anywhere that produces fresh lemons and paint these sunny fruits while the rain pours outside and the thermometer drops well below a temperature that would permit their growth. The painting is 6x8 inches on a gallery-wrapped canvas. Now that it is dry I have placed it in the Small Impressions Gallery where another winter soul can purchase its sunshine. Click here to view it in the gallery or put it in a shopping cart.

Triple Pear

Winter weather has kept me in the studio rather than out in the world, but a trio of pears succeeded in providing some inspiration for my anxious paintbrush. When I finished the family portrait, I ate one. So sweet! The painting is 5x7 inches on a canvas panel and will replace six other small fruit paintings that recently sold at the Small Impressions Gallery. It can be viewed in the Gallery or put in a shopping cart by clicking here.

Winter Friends

My collection of reference photos is feeling sparse and fresh fruit in the middle of winter is pretty limited. Finding inspiration in in the midst of gray drizzle can be a challenge, but today these two red friends modeled for me. The painting is 6x8 inches on a gallery-wrapped canvas and the effort brought some color to this winter day. This painting can be purchased here for $65.00 plus shipping. It can also be viewed in my online gallery, Small Impressions Paintings.

Pear Love

Yesterday I went to the Picasso Exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. Picasso has never been much of an influence on my work, but it was an opportunity I didn't want to miss. Seeing the work of famous artists in person is a very different experience than viewing online or in books. I like to see the brush strokes and textures up close and note the materials. Today's painting was influenced by Picasso's subdued colors, carnal ideas, and womanizing ways. The painting can be purchased online here for $35.00 plus shipping.

Metal and Tangerines

I'm still playing with tangerines. Today's challenge was adding a reflective metal bowl. Painting that was the most fun of all. Capturing the distortion and color of the reflection was easier than I expected. The painting is 6x8 inches on gallery-wrapped canvas and can be purchased online at Small Impressions Gallery for $75.00 plus shipping. Click here to view it in the gallery and add it to your shopping cart.

Cup and Oranges

Arranging items for a still life provided some good inspiration for a colorless winter day. I raided the refrigerator and discovered that there wasn't much in the way of color, so these sweet little fruits took full responsibility. I was happy they were there to hang out with me and provide some good company while their portrait was completed. Their portrait is 5x7 inches on a Raymar canvas panel. The paint is dry and it can be purchased for $50.00 plus shipping by clicking on this link.

Peeled

In the middle of winter when the rain is pouring down and the wind is blowing, these little Mandarine Oranges always bring a sweet, freshness to the day. Yesterdeday was no exception when I sat down to paint these juicy little segments. The painting is 5x7 inches on a Raymar Canvas panel. It will be for sale online at my Etsy gallery when the paint is dry, so check in soon.

Crunch, Crunch, Winter Apples

A trip to the farmer's market today resulted in some wonderful winter apples and a painting, too! The apples were so fresh and crunchy, I had to hold back so I would still have one to paint. The result is this 6x8 inch oil painting, a fun project for a Saturday afternoon. Click here to view it in the Small Impressions Gallery at Etsy where it can be purchased for $75.00 plus shipping.
