Lunchtime Lamb

This little lamb is in the same pasture as the goose I imagined a few days ago. The paint is oil; the canvas is 4x6 inches. Since the paint has dried, he has joined some of the other animals at the Small Impressions Gallery. I suspect he won't be around for long; these little farm animal paintings sell quickly, giving me additional opportunites to paint more fun little creatures. He and the goose can be purchased for $24.00 each plus shipping. Click here to put this one in your shopping cart. They are a fun little pair.

Twice Grazed

Painting the big sheep yesterday was so much fun, I painted another sheep painting today. This one is just 4x6 inches. The abstract shapes and colors are what has been most enticing for my paint brush. In a few weeks when the paintings are dry, they will be listed for sale in my shop of original paintings at Etsy. Click here to view the shop and some of my other small paintings.

Big Blue Sheep

It was a joy to paint today. This big blue guy seemed to just paint himself. He was created on a 5x7 inch hardboard panel with my usual medium, oil paint. My palette was ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, cadmium yellow, sap green, and titanium white. He is for sale at my Etsy Shop. Click here to view some closeups.

Grazing on the Hillside

It has been a while since I have painted sheep. I used to paint them often, but haven't done so for quite some time. Today the inspiration hit and this little herd emerged on my canvas. The munching herd is on a 5x7 inch Raymar canvas panel and executed in my usual medium, oil paint. At present these little fellows are sitting on the drying rack, but it won't be long until they join some of my other animal paintings in the Small Impressions Gallery at Etsy.

In the Golden Light

It has been a while since I have painted sheep. I used to paint them quite often, but drifted away from the subject. What excited me about this painting was not the sheep, but the evening light. I used a palette of cadmium yellow, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, raw sienna, asphaltum, and white. Asphaltum is a nice transparent, deep redish brown, one I seldom use, but definitely appreciated in this painting. The painting is 5x7 inches on a canvas panel.

Nothing But Mischief

This little fellow is the third in my recent series of sheep paintings. He is full of romp and trouble, running, leaping, jumping, and having a good time. With a stick in his mouth, he's headed for some kind of mischief. The expression on his face tells me he has no regard for rules. The painting is a small 4x5 inches on a canvas panel--just right for him. If I can keep him from destroying the landscape, he'll eventually end up for sale in the Small Impressions Gallery with some of my other small paintings that can be purchased online with Paypal and a couple of mouse clicks.

Big Daddy--Sheep in Sunshine

Painting sheep in fields of green is a creative direction I take when feeling a need to relax. After a busy week, it is nice to imagine myself in a summer field with these peaceful animals roaming about, grazing, and taking it easy. This painting is a 5x7 inch oil painting of a really large animal looking over the landscape. I can only imagine what he is thinking. Perhaps it just feels good to have the sun on his back and plenty of grass to eat. Life is good!

Bicycling, Painting, and a Couple of Sheep

This morning is cold and clear. These days have been few and far between in the past month. I want to take advantage and get some fresh air, exercise, and some good reference photos. My favorite bike ride is through the Orting Valley in Pierce County, Washington. Travelling through rural Western Washington State provides me with a lot of inspiration for painting my Small Impressions paintings. I love to see the animals grazing and the natural beauty of the landscape. The fresh air and exercise relieves stress and makes me feel like I'm a carefree kid again. This little painting was inspired by a view of the passing landscape on one of my rides. It is 4x6 inches on a canvas panel and is for sale in the Small Impressions Gallery . This sheep painting was created on an affordable canvas panel is one of a series of animal paintings I've worked on lately. It can be purchased for $24.00 plus $6.50 for shipping to US addresses.
