Berry Red--Working with Values

Red paint can be a challenge to work with. To create the values required to replicate a three-dimensional object using red demands practice and preparation. I think I was able to pull it off, more or less, with this large strawberry on a 5x7 inch panel.

This looks so luscious...I just know if I bit into that strawberry it would be juicy, sweet perfection - just like your painting!

It IS hard with reds Nancy, and you DID hit it wonderfully! The darks, the shadows...and my favorite...the greens in the top!! Very nice piece!

Thanks, Saundra. I've been enjoying painting strawberries lately. Other red fruit--not so much. Glad you like it!

Thanks, Bonnie. Red is always a trick, but I got it right this time!
