Green Eyes--American Cat Portrait

Yesterday it was dog painting; today it is a cat. Painting the eyes is the part that is the most fun on both animals, but it is the cat's eyes that I find especially beautiful. I start with the eyes and everything else seems secondary--something to add to make it look like a cat or a dog. When I was really young, my family owned cats, but my daughter has a terrible cat allergy, so we haven't been able to add a cat to the family. This painting is 5x7 inches and was painted in oils on a black gessoed MDF hardboard panel.

I just love this painting! The eyes are so intense and I just love the subtle texture to show the fur! Well Done!

Thanks Michelle--It is the first cat I've painted and rather enjoyed it. I may have paint some more. It was really quite fun.

Your paintings always have such vibrant colors with contrasting qualities. Where some of us are only exploring the use of color, you have mastered this as well as how light plays with the objects around it. I always enjoy looking at your work.
