Dechutes River Trail

Almost every time I visit Central Oregon, I hike the Dechutes River Trail.  This 5x7 inch oil painting was inspired by a visit this past April.  The weather was still trying to decide whether to move into spring or stick with the winter.  The sky vacillated between snow and sunshine.  The painting recently SOLD at my Etsy Shop, but you can view some of my other small landscape paintings, paintings of trees, fields, or barns and buildings  that are for sale in the shop by clicking on the highlighted links.

Peace

These lovely Peace roses are beginning to bloom in my back yard.  I love the the subtlety of the oranges and pinks that emerge from its petals.  As soon as the paint was dry, this painting was listed for sale in my Etsy Shop.  It is 4x4 inches on a canvas panel and was created with artists grade oil paints. It SOLD in a very short time, but some of my other paintings of flowers are still available.

Mother's Day

It has been a little over a week now since Mother's Day.  I finally took the time to haul this wonderful bouquet into my studio and capture the light before the flowers and the foliage fade.  The painting is 16x20 inches, larger than my usual, but so much fun to use big brushes and paint loose.

Adventure

So far, this has been a month of adventure and beautiful weather.  I've traveled up and down the west coast, traveled east, and returned home again.  To top it off, we've had an unbelievable six weekends straight with sunshine, unheard of in Washington State during the spring where we usually have nothing but rain.  Luckily, the rain came only during the week and God left sunshine for everyone's days off on Saturday and Sunday.   I haven't spent near as much time  in my studio as I would like.  It felt good to find some time to do just that.  This 9x12 inch oil painting is a little life guard shack just north of Santa Monica in California. Yesterday morning was a delightful time in the studio recreating an adventure we had riding bicycles down the California coast. The painting SOLD at my Etsy Shop, but I have many other landscape oil  paintings still for sale.

Road to the Beach

April has flown by and I have not done near as much painting as is my usual.  Visiting family, enjoying a couple of sunny weekends and I realize my studio has been neglected and the paintings have been sparse.  In spite of that, I am happy to have finished this little 6x8 painting.  It took a while because I kept fussing with it.  I was trying to capture that funny weather that occurs in the Northwest where the sun is shinning, but a light fog hangs in the air at the same time.  The Washington Coast is especially prone to those kinds of days.  This road to the beach was my inspiration.  Head down that path and you will find yourself on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.  Hope you enjoy your stay.  The painting is for sale at my Etsy Shop.  You can purchase it or view it in the shop by clicking here

A Little Bit of Ireland

I cannot say exactly where in Ireland one might find this lighthouse.  It is painted from a photograph my daughter took on her last visit.  I loved the cool feel of the rocky shoreline and the warmth of the grass in front.  It was also a pleasure to paint.  The painting is 12x12 inches on a heavy 1-1/2 inch thick gallery-wrapped canvas.  My original plan was to paint this and another from the same photo collections, but I haven't quite gotten there yet.  This one is for sale in my Etsy Shop.  Click here to visit the shop or make a purchase.

Lemon Tricksters

Painting lemons is a great little challenge.  It isn't easy to get just the right values for these sunny little fruits. Yellow is a trickster. I messed around with these two fellows quite a bit.  Finally called it good and placed the painting in my Etsy Shop for sale.  The painting is 6x8 inches on a gallery-wrapped canvas.  Visit my shop, Small Impressions Paintings, to view it or make a purchase.

Gardening

The garden has been turned; the seeds have been purchased; radishes will be growing soon.  It is exciting to consider spring time is coming fast and I'll be putting seeds in the ground very soon.  I always have tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, and sometimes basil and radish in my garden.   They make lovely subjects for painting and I won't have to purchase my subjects from the grocery store like I did for this little bundle of color.  This painting is 6x6 inches on a canvas panel.  It recently SOLD, but you can find other small paintings for sale in my Etsy shop

Party Crasher

The pears keep appearing and reappearing in my studio.  This is another that just seemed to pop out of nowhere.  Originally this painting started out as a study in glass.  I love painting glass and have a small collection of bottles, bowls, and other sparkly glass items.  To begin, I sat three bottles on the table.  It was boring.  Although the glass had that spark that inspires me, the color wasn't very exciting.  Then this yellow pear meandered her way onto the set and bam--it was a go.  The painting is 8x10 inches on a gallery-wrapped canvas.  It is for sale in my Etsy shop along with some of my other still life and fruit paintings.  My other addiction is painting chrome and shiny metal objects.  I'm sure some of those items will be appearing here soon.  There will probably be a pear in the mix.  Those pears seem to be pretty consistent at crashing the party--but with such colorful personalities, who can resist?

Still Life Reflections

Today's painting was inspired by a couple of things:  my lunch and a shiny stainless steel bowl.  I've used this bowl in a number of still life paintings.  It is one of my favorite items for still life painting because it is so much fun to include the reflections.   I've also painted it with orange slices and apples.  Clicking on the links will take you to see some of my other paintings with this shiny little bowl.  This painting is 8x10 inches and is currently for sale in my Etsy Shop, Small Impressions Paintings.  View it in the shop or make a purchase by visiting this link.

Crunchy Fruit

Everyday for lunch lately, I've been biting into one of these crunchy pears.  Sometimes they are red, sometimes they are yellow, sometimes green, but always delicious.  It seemed inevitable that they would be painted.  This pair is for sale at my Etsy ShopClick here to view them in the shop or make a purchase.

Going Bigger

Today's painting is a little larger than my usual.  Sometimes I just need to get away from small.  This painting is 11x14 inches on a gallery-wrapped canvas.  It feels good to use larger brushes, cover more canvas, and do something a little different.  The painting is available for sale in my Etsy Shop by clicking here

Up Close and Personal

We are on the countdown to Easter.  Birth and new life remind us that spring is here and the dark months are behind us. This portrait is a tribute to the season.  Capturing the light was my goal.  With the light behind him, the ears of this little lamb took on a soft pink glow while the white of his wool was apparent only around the edges of the figure.  He is on a 5x7 inch canvas and SOLD in my Etsy Shop but I have other original small format oil paintings of birds and animals still for sale.  Check it out here
