Last Snow

Just when it seemed like spring was coming, the weather has changed and provided a last dump of snow in Central Oregon where I have been hiding out for the past few weeks with a broken ankle and an ugly boot. It was going to be a short trip, so my paints didn't go with me. After sitting with my foot elevated for way too many days, it was a pleasure to finally be home and have a chance to get back to my art. This little 8x10 inch oil painting with its combination of warm and cool colors was created with oil paints on a stretched canvas. The original is available in my Etsy shop. Magazine Photo Shoot

A couple of months ago, my painting took a trip to Georgia as part of a photoshoot for This Old House Magazine.  I am excited to announce that the January/February 2015 issue debuted today and this painting is a part of it.  The article, Fresh Start, is about the remodeling of a 1940's home in Georgia and the family that owned it.  This little 8x10 inch oil painting added color to an otherwise mostly white bathroom.  It looks great propped up on a shelf just above the bathtub.  You can see it here and if you scroll to the bottom of the text in the link, there is a credit to me and a link to my Etsy Shop.  Needless to say, I am thrilled that my little painting is a part of this endeavor. Stormy Afternoon Landscape Painting

Second in my recent series of little landscape paintings is this 8x10 oil on stretched canvas.  It was inspired by one of those rare stormy summer days when the wind is blowing, the rain is pouring, and then the clouds part and the sunlight streams down giving a little glow to the world.  The original will eventually be listed in the Barns and Buildings section of my Etsy Shop.  Fine art reproduction prints and posters are available from my website, here.  I hope you will stop by and take a look.

Violet Shapes

A friend of mine gave me an African Violet that he grew from a leaf.  He said the plant from which he took the leaf had been around for years.  The plant was healthy and happy, so I was inspired to paint.  This is a bird's eye view of one of several African Violets that I now own.  The original painting was created on an 8x10 inch gallery canvas with oil paints.  I began with a red under painting and added layers of color to develop the image.  Reproduction prints are available for sale at my website, and when the paint dries on this I will probably sell it in my Etsy Shop with some of my other still life paintings.

From Portland

Today's painting was inspired by recent travels from Washington State to Central Oregon.  As travelers move across the Columbia River into Oregon, Mount Hood begins to watch over all.  The original painting was created on an 8x10 inch canvas, but with the marvels of modern digital photography, fine art prints up to size 28x30 inches can be created.  To view the different sizes and surfaces on which this painting can be reproduced, visit this link.  You can view more oregon landscape paintings at Fine Art America.

Meadow Pines

A Central Oregon meadow and a cluster of pine trees was the inspiration for this 8x10 inch oil painting. Nisqually Delta

If you've ever been to the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge in Thurston County, Washington State, then you will recognize one of the remaining barns from the Brown Family Farm.  It is a classic barn in a beautiful rural landscape.  It is a blessing that this area is shared with public and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Nisqually Delta.  I am inspired to paint every time I visit.  This oil painting is 8x10 inches and was based on a photo taken last spring.  I loved the contrast of the sunlit barn and the tree shadow.  The painting is for sale at my Etsy Shop.  Click this link to view it in the shop or make a purchase. 

Snow Shoeing

Red Brush

Hiking the Winter Trail

Today's painting is one of a series I've been working on. Last April my husband and I spent a week in Bend,Oregon. It is a great time of year to visit because by the time we cross the mountains into the high desert of Central Oregon, we are water soaked, skin wrinkled, pale shells of our former selves.  It is a delight to leave the drenching rains of Washington's coast and see a place where the sun comes out frequently and patches of snow still lay on the ground.  This 8x10 inch oil painting was inspired by a ten-mile hike up the River Trail in the Dechutes National Forest.  It was still cold and winter like, but we were amazed that we could be outside for an extended period of time, see beautiful landscapes, and not get wet. My Red Rose

In the summer, my backyard provides so many moments of inspiration for painting that I can't seem to paint them all before the garden changes and new things sprout and beg to be painted.  I clipped this single rose last night, set it on the table, enjoyed its beauty, and painted.
