Family--Original Sheep Painting

Three is a good number. I've found comfort in painting subjects in triplicate. Three sheep, three cows, three onions, three lemons. When I paint things in pairs, I don't have the same emotional response. It feels unbalanced which is odd since logic would dictate that even numbers--two or four or six--would be more balanced. Isn't that how a scale finds its center? Yet I am oddly attracted to the asymetrical.

Piglets--Contemporary Animal Oil Painting

It is time for these two little fellows to move to a new home. They've been residing in my studio for several months, but will be moving to the Small Impressions Gallery sometime this week. I've been trying to stock the animals section, but my little paintings of animals don't seem to want to stick around for very long. Since the first of October I have sold three sheep , two dog, and two cow paintings. Several of them haven't even made it to the gallery before they were sold. Needless to say, I'm thrilled! This painting is 8x10 inches on a gessoed hardboard panel and will be listed for $125.00 plus $12.00 for shipping to US addresses.

Original American Sheep Painting

This pair of sheep wandered in to replace several other small animal paintings that recently sold. Selling my paintings keeps me motivated to paint more. As soon as I sell a painting, I feel compelled to paint more to make up for the empty space. When this 5x7 inch oil painting dried, it was going to join some of my other small animal paintings at Small Impressions Gallery , but it SOLD almost imediately.

Piglets--Original Animal Portrait

Yesterday was another day of high heat. I painted in the morning and lounged like these little piglets in the hot afternoon--mostly catching up on reading and planning work on some color charts. This painting is 8x10 inches, oil on a gessoed hardboard panel. Sometimes a painting seems to paint itself, and this one was one of those.

Cowgirls -- Original American Cow Oil Painting

As promised, here is another of my little 5x7 inch cow paintings. These young ladies were created using professional grade oil paints on a gessoed hardboard surface. When I painted them, I used loose brushwork and thick paint. Closeups of the impasto can be found in the thumbnails at my Etsy Gallery Shop. Mad Cows -- Original American Oil Painting

Painting cows is just plain fun. They have very expressive faces and their angled shapes are a joy to paint. I've added this 5x7 inch pair to my Etsy Gallery and will be adding other miniature cow portraits over the next few days. Closeups demonstrate the heavy texture of the paint I used when creating this duo.

Mad Cows--Original American Oil Painting

This pair of cows has captured my love! Their awkward shapes and personalities were a delight to paint. As they looked on with blank stares, I wondered if they were mad at my intrusion. The painting was completed in oils on a 5 x 7 inch hardboard panel.
