This past week I've been playing with some mixed media, acrylic paint, ink, and pencils. My surface is usually canvas, but I worked on paper this time, namely a 246 lb. archival acrylic paper. The focus was on making different kinds of marks, layering texture, and composition. You can view the entire series here.

After I was finished, it was fun to play with adding different types of matting and framing. My vision is a wall of these little abstract designs. Now, I just need a big blank wall.

Playing with the Color Blue

I had some fun this week playing with paint, paper, and digital mixed media. A mixture of oil painting, acrylic collage, and a photo of a crafty raven merged to create the contemporary composition. I love the colors, the shapes, and the design. Pure fun. Below is an image of the design framed with a simple black frame and white mat. My print shop also created versions on canvas and metal. Summer Playtime

So it is true, I've done a lot of playing this summer and haven't kept up on my blog posts, but it doesn't mean I haven't been busy creating new work. The collection of my large landscapes at Ugallery has grown considerably and I have been adding a new painting almost every week. I hope you will stop by and see my newest landscape paintings.

In my Etsy Shop I have also been able to continue adding more small format oil paintings. I paint daily and the inventory moves quickly, so I'm at the post office several times a week.

This week I've also been playing with paper, paint, and glue creating a series of mixed media collages that have been great fun. The studio floor is filled with my endeavors and my big box of found papers has been pilfered for colors and textures.  Since these works are on paper, I only sell reproductions, but the nice thing about that is that they can be reproduced on paper, canvas, acrylic, and even metal in a wide variety of sizes. A Glowing Summer of Art

The summer has passed quickly and by the look of my postings, it seems I have not been working very hard. This is only an illusion. I've worked hard and played hard. This 18x24 inch abstract mixed-media painting is one of a pair in a series I call my Glow Series that was created this summer. I call it glow because there is a reflective sheen in the design. Photography doesn't show it off well, but a layer of foil creates a surface that bounces light in a delightful manner. Reproductions of this work are available here. Cross Town Bus

Paint and paper are still finding their way into my artwork. A little bit of everything went into this painted collage. Magazine pages provide beautiful, bold color. Paint provides the background, circular stamps and ink add to the surface. The round shapes provided movement. When I was finished it felt like I had travelled across town, thus I named the piece, Cross Town Bus. It was just plain old fun to create. The original was created on paper and is not for sale, but reproductions on paper or canvas are available here. Converging Ideas

Playing with texture and color was the order of today's effort.  I used acrylic mediums, foil, and paint as my playground. It was a fun experiment that achieved a design worth keeping. Energy Burst Mixed Media Painting

Adding charcoal and chalk to a textured burst of color has been happening with my creations lately.  Something about making a good scribble on top of a painting feels great.  Color, movement, and energy combine for a satisfying day of painting.  This painting is available as a reproduction fine art print, canvas print, or framed print from my website.  I hope you will stop by for a visit and to see some of my other abstract and mixed media paintings.

As the Crow Flies

My experiments continue!  As I mentioned in my last post, I've been playing with textures.  This painting was created on a stretched canvas.  What I liked about the canvas was that it had been painted on before--many times.  It was a canvas that I experimented on and then just painted over again and again.  Eventually layers of texture built up.  I added some tissue paper, some gel medium, several more layers of paint with a final couple of layers of glaze.   Finally, I painted the silhouette of the crow.  I really like how the color and textures work together.  The original mixed media painting was 11x14 inches.  Fine art prints on either canvas or paper are available for purchase here.
