Signature Series Abstract Painting

Last Light Twilight Landscape Painting

It has been a long time since I have painted on a black canvas.  I used to do it occasionally and the effects are often exciting, but it has been a long time since I've worked this way.  This acrylic landscape painting was created on a canvas prepared with black gesso. I wanted to increase the contrast between the sunny grass and trees and the dark and distant horizon.  It was fun and I like the effect. Color in the Fog

The weather is typical October--a lot of fog and damp air that makes people stay inside and drink tea. The cold has made me long for some bright color and sunshine.  It is these colorful little fruits that finally brought the sunshine home.  Sitting in my studio, painting bright colors make me feel a little more cheerful on the gray days of autumn.  This painting was created on a 6x6 inch gallery canvas.  When the paint is dry, I will list it for sale in my Etsy Shop.  Now it is available as a fine art reproduction from my website. I hope you will enjoy the bright colors like I did. 

Brush Love

Today's painting was created with a couple of new paint brushes I recently purchased. The brushes are a No. 4 Blick Materstroke Bristle Flat and a No. 4 Silver Grand Prix Bristle Flat . I'm on a never-ending quest for the perfect brush. I suspect these two brushes are manufactured by the same company and sold under different labels. They appear to be identical except for the color of the handles. Both have wonderfully springy bristles of exactly the same length and width that hold their shape well. Both have the same copper colored ferrules of exactly the same shape and size. If it wasn't for the different colored handles, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. And I love them both! The delimma will be when I purchase more, which one will I pick? The painting is 5x7 inches on a hardboard panel and was a pleasure to paint with my wonderful new brushes! Soon it will be for sale at Small Impressions Gallery along with some of my other small landscape oil paintings.

Carbon River Shadows--Original American Landscape Painting

Today I visited the Carbon River again by riding my bike along the Foothills Trail from Puyallup to South Prairie in Pierce County, Washington. The Carbon River flows out of the Carbon Galcier on Mount Rainier and joins the Puyallup River in the town of Orting. It turned out to be a beautiful day and once again, the river bed inspired my painting. This painting is an 8x10 inch oil painting on a gessoed panel. It is for sale at Impressions Gallery for $125.00 plus $12.50 for shipping to US addresses.

Burrito Boy--Original Cityscape Painting

Today's painting is a 6x12 inch oil painting on a canvas panel. It is based on a visit to a local art fair last summer. I loved the funky burrito van that parked along the road. The day was hot and the crowds were hungry. The 11th annual Art on the Ave Festival is coming up again this Sunday, July 12. There is all kinds of art, food vendors, and fun. You might even have a chance to buy a burrito from the Burrito Boy van. If you are in Pierce County, Washington, it isn't a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
