On my usual rotation of subjects, I have gravitated to birds. I like to paint these little fellows on small canvases. Small birds, small canvases seems appropriate, so this week I went bird crazy. As they dry, the originals will be listed for sale in my
Etsy Shop. Of the five that emerged from my brush, this little Chickadee is my favorite. I love the neutral colors and the warm pink glow as he sits on a branch on watches the world go by. The original is 4x6 inches and was created with oil paints. Since the paint is still wet, he isn't for sale yet, but keep checking my

A few weeks ago I grabbed this 4x6 inch canvas and promptly made a mess. Sometimes work is better off just wiped out. After wiping the image off, the canvas sat on the shelf for a few weeks and dried. It was the color of a sunset, but there was no painting. At least until today. The muse visited again and these two little shore birds found a home on the golden canvas. It is satisfying when I can make something beautiful out of a dried up mess. My new set of gouache paints and my friend, Carolyn, inspired this little 4x6 inch painting. I love the paints! They allow for subtle variations that I've never been able to achieve with my oils. They can behave like watercolors with lovely transparency, but not require the preservation of whites that I've always found irritating with watercolor paints.
