When creating this 8x10 inch oil painting, I was attracted by the reflection of light on the black plate. Very little of the plate actually appeared black. The light ranged from gray to blue, and all the way to white. It is the abstraction of light that drew me to this still life. The contrast between the blue of the reflections, the orange of the fruit, and the color of the table top worked well to hold my attention as I painted.
